Roll requirements
Determining the number of rolls needed – How to calculate the correct amount of wallpaper
Accurately calculating the amount of wallpaper needed is crucial for smooth application and a perfect result. The number of rolls required depends on several factors:
-
Room perimeter
-
Room height
-
Roll length and roll width
-
Wallpaper pattern repeat
-
Cutting and safety reserve
You can find the exact dimensions of your desired wallpaper in the respective product details view.
Wallpaper needs assessment
To calculate the required number of wallpaper rolls , proceed as follows:
1️⃣ Determine the room perimeter
Add up the lengths of all the walls:
Length of wall 1 + wall 2 + wall 3 + wall 4 = room perimeter
2️⃣ Determine the room height
Measure the room height and add approximately 5 cm to ensure a clean cut.
3️⃣ Consider the role format
The most common roll format is the Euro roll:
10.05 m length × 0.53 m width
For large rolls or special formats, the dimensions must be taken into account accordingly.
4️⃣ Plan for a safety reserve
Windows and doors should not be completely deducted from the calculation. It is advisable to include at least one spare roll for future repairs or renovations.
Needs assessment for borders
Calculating wallpaper borders is much simpler:
-
Determine room perimeter
-
Divide the room perimeter by the border length
Standard borders are usually 5 meters long (sometimes 10 meters).
Formula:
Room perimeter ÷ border length = number of borders required
Example calculation – Wallpaper requirements (0.53 m × 10.05 m)
| Room perimeter (m) | Room height (m) | Number of roles |
|---|---|---|
| 10 | 2.25 | 5 |
| 15 | 2.25 | 7 |
| 20 | 2.25 | 9 |
| 25 | 2.25 | 12 |
| 10 | 2.50 | 6 |
| 15 | 2.50 | 8 |
| 20 | 2.50 | 10 |
| 25 | 2.50 | 12 |
| 10 | 2.75 | 6 |
| 15 | 2.75 | 8 |
| 20 | 2.75 | 11 |
| 25 | 2.75 | 14 |
| 10 | 3.00 | 6 |
| 15 | 3.00 | 9 |
| 20 | 3.00 | 12 |
| 25 | 3.00 | 15 |
| 10 | 3.25 | 7 |
| 15 | 3.25 | 10 |
| 20 | 3.25 | 13 |
| 25 | 3.25 | 16 |
Important note regarding patterned wallpapers
Wallpaper with a repeating pattern (pattern offset) results in increased waste. In this case, an extra roll should be factored in.
